Time For Tax Season 2019
Francy Valencia Works with the CILB and Hispanic Unity of Florida To Get Her Taxes Done

Over the last 5 years, we assisted over 400 Broward County residents with disabilities with their income tax returns. Participants received a total of over $350,000 back in tax refunds.

CIL of Broward Collaborates With Local Agencies to Assist Consumer
The Center for Independent Living of Broward was proud to collaborate with Broward Housing Solutions and AmRamp to assist a consumer. Ellen Spikes is an 87-year-old woman who lives with her daughter.

Ellen rents an apartment from Broward Housing Solutions, and she uses a wheelchair to get around. The Center for Independent Living of Broward worked in conjunction with Broward Housing Solutions and AmRamp because Ellen needed a ramp to get in and out of her home. As a result, Ellen is now able to participate in her community more often and live independently.

Medicaid Program Assisting People With Disabilities Given Extension
Money Follows The Person Helps People with Disabilities With Housing Needs
A program that provides financial assistance for people with disabilities has received an extension. The program, called Money Follows The Person, provides Medicaid funding to states to assist people with disabilities. This program helps people with disabilities move out of nursing homes or other institutions.

The ultimate goal, advocates say, will be legislation to make the program permanent in all states. So far, these states have received around $3.7 billion. This money has helped more than 88,000 people with disabilities and seniors relocate since 2006.

The Center for Independent Living of Broward works hard to ensure that our local community has accessible housing and the resources they need to live as independently as possible.
